Master Charly's Orkney Adventure 2024

27.05.2024

This year Master, Missus Morgan and I are off to Orkney. Apparently it is just off the top of Scotland, so we will be driving there in the Missus's car. Its more economical than masters! We are going at the end of June, so not long to wait now.

This is a map on the Orkney Isles

There seems to be a lot of Islands. The particular interest this year is, its the final year of the dig at the Ness Of Brodgar. Archaeologists have been digging at this site for twenty years. Its findings cover very early human habitation in the area, so Missus is very excited to be going to see it, she likes things like that. I do too. She says there are daily guided tours of the site. So I will write more about this when we go to see it. I hope the weather is nice, I have heard it is a bit colder than where we live in England. I don't think it will be as cold as the North West Passage though! Apparently there is lots of Archaeology in the Orkneys. Master went there with his mother when he was thirteen and says that the place we must visit is the Italian Chapel. It was created form a Nissen hut by Italian Prisoners of war (WW2), and is very ornate inside, so I am looking forward to seeing that too. Also Orkney is the Birthplace of Dr Rae, who worked for the Hudson Bay company and was an Artic Explorer. It was him that found out from the Inuit what had happened to the Franklin Expedition. So there is a connection to last years holiday here too.

Its all so exciting Missus letting me start my blog so early, so I'll be posting again at the end of June. bye for now. Charly Bear.
